360Energy completes the construction of a solar complex to supply private companies in Argentina

Updated: Feb 17

360Energy completes the construction of La Rioja Solar Complex, one of Argentina’s largest solar parks dedicated to corporate energy supply.

With the commercial authorization of the La Rioja I, La Rioja II, and La Rioja III solar parks, the Argentine company 360Energy has announced the completion of the La Rioja Solar Complex, located in the town of Nonogasta, in the province of La Rioja. This milestone establishes the complex as one of the largest solar parks in the country, dedicated to supplying industries and businesses through direct corporate power purchase agreements (MATER contracts).

Spanning 299 hectares, the three adjacent solar parks have a total installed capacity of 122 MWdc and an estimated annual generation of 300 GWh, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 80,000 households in Argentina.

A significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions

The commissioning of this solar energy complex will prevent the emission of approximately 130,000 tons of CO₂e into the atmosphere, reducing the carbon footprint of private companies that have already signed solar power purchase agreements with 360Energy, including Stellantis, Acerbrag, Bridgestone, Holcim, Rehau, Estisol, Transclor, and Smurfit Westrock.

According to Argentina’s Wholesale Electricity Market Administrator (CAMMESA), renewable energy sources accounted for 14.5% of total electricity generation in the country during the first half of 2024.

The operation of the 360Energy La Rioja Solar Complex aligns with Argentina’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and directly supports Renewable Energy Law No. 27,191, which aims for 20% of the national energy matrix to come from renewable sources by 2025.

Strengthening 360Energy’s leadership in Argentina and beyond

With the completion of this project, 360Energy solidifies its position as a leading player in solar energy and Argentina’s energy transition, while also advancing new projects totaling more than 300 MW in Argentina and over 500 MW internationally.

The construction of the 360Energy La Rioja Solar Complex was financed through Green Bonds issued between 2022 and 2024, successfully raising $100 million USD. The total investment for the project, including the expansion of the Nonogasta Solar Substation, exceeded $97 million USD, directly and indirectly employing over 500 workers, most of them from La Rioja province, and engaging more than 60 local suppliers.

Technical specifications of the project:

  • 3,588 solar tracker rows (Arctech)

  • Over 190,000 bifacial solar panels (625 Wp, Astroenergy and TrinaSolar)

  • 463 inverters (Huawei)

  • 19 transformation centers

  • Grid connection to the Argentine Interconnected System (SADI) via Nonogasta Solar Substation (132kV)

360Energy’s leadership and Stellantis partnership

Federico Sbarbi Osuna, CEO of 360Energy for South America, stated:"We are proud to announce the commissioning of this ambitious project, which brings together the La Rioja I, II, and III solar parks. With CAMMESA’s authorization, we have consolidated one of Argentina’s most significant solar complexes dedicated to corporate energy supply. This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and ongoing commitment of the entire 360Energy team, who drive our mission to provide clean and sustainable energy every day."

Recently, automotive group Stellantis—formed from the merger of PSA and FCA—acquired 49.5% of 360Energy Solar S.A. The two companies are currently collaborating on the development and construction of solar projects to supply Stellantis’ industrial plants in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and Italy.
